The DS1 is the smaller of the two. With an overall length listed at approximately 120 mm, it brings the traditional butterfly — or balisong — architecture into an unusually compact format.

Its metal construction leaves the pivots and articulated mechanism clearly visible rather than hiding them behind decorative elements.

The DS3 takes the same principle into a larger format, with an overall length listed at approximately 202 mm and a partially serrated blade.

Croc and Croch: a different approach to the mini folder

With Croc and Croch, the range moves away from the butterfly knife mechanism and into compact folding knives.

The underlying philosophy remains similar: keep the knife small while making the mechanism an integral part of its design.

Both models use an axis-style locking system, in which a transverse bar locks the blade in the open position.

The Croc features a more exposed, skeletonised metal construction, while the Croch introduces different materials, including Micarta on the handle.

They are therefore related designs rather than simple colour variations.

A technical identity rather than decorative styling

The connection between the different Alain Descy models is particularly visible in their construction.

Pivots remain clearly visible. Handles are shaped around the mechanical components. Compact dimensions require each part to fulfil a clear role. Several documented references in the range also use 440C stainless steel.

Caring for Alain Descy knives

Articulated knife mechanisms benefit from simple regular maintenance.

Remove dust and residue from around the pivots after use and keep metal components clean and dry. Where required, use only a very small amount of suitable lubricant around the pivot.

On butterfly knives, periodically check the pivots and latch. On axis-style locking folders, keep the locking area clean so the transverse bar can move freely.
