Max Knives NS146 — Starfish shuriken, 5 rounded arms, 100 mm
The NS146 swaps angular tips for the rounded shape known as a starfish: five arms over 100 mm of diameter, 3 mm of 420 stainless steel and a belt sheath.
Overview
The NS146 is the odd one out of the series: its five arms take a rounded shape, the one known as a starfish. The outline has nothing of the usual angular rosette; it closes in curves, over a diameter of 100 mm. The 420 stainless plate measures 3 mm, the finish is silver, and a belt sheath accompanies the piece as it does across the range.
The starfish shape
Naming a shape already describes it: starfish here means arms that are broad at the base and rounded at the end rather than drawn out into fine points. The design therefore fills more material for the same 100 mm diameter, and the silhouette is recognised from across a room, with no chance of confusing it with the NS145 or the NS147 that share that very dimension. On a shelf it breaks the alignment of classic rosettes, which is often the reason it joins a collection.
Technical specifications
Five arms of rounded, starfish form, for an overall diameter of 100 mm. Plate thickness: 3 mm. Material: 420 stainless steel with a silver finish. The shuriken is supplied with a belt sheath. No weight is published. At 100 mm and 3 mm, the NS146 shares its dimensions with the NS145, NS147, NS149 and NS150, and only its shape separates it from them.
Care
Rounded arms clean in one continuous motion: the cloth follows the curve without stopping at any angle, which is quicker than working around a straight point. The rest is unchanged, clear water if there is soil, careful drying, a thin coat of light oil on the 420 steel. Watch the hollows between two arms, where rinsing water likes to stay: a corner of dry fabric earns its place there before storage.
