Overview

The KUBATON6 opens in a warm golden bronze that lightens along the body until it reaches silver grey at the tip. That transition is not painted on: it is the anodising of the titanium, carried out by hand in the MAXKNIVES workshops in France, that wrote it into the metal, and the oxide thickness reached that day will not be found on another body. Inside sits a single-action automatic OTF pick with a tungsten carbide point; at the end, a key ring.

The key ring and everyday carry

The ring fitted at the end of the body changes what the object is: this kubaton is not stored away in a drawer, it lives with the keys, in a pocket or a bag, and returns to the hand every time a door is opened. Titanium earns its place here, since it takes no mark from damp denim and adds no needless mass to the bunch. The body stays smooth as long as the pick is in, which spares the lining any snags. And because no two pieces leave the bath with the same gradient, you pick your own keys out at a glance.

Technical specifications

This kubaton pairs a titanium body anodised by hand in France with a tungsten carbide point that fills the glass-breaker role. The point is driven by a single-action automatic OTF pick: it comes out of the nose on its own and goes back in under a finger. The key ring is mounted at the far end. Care

Run a dry cloth over the body regularly so the bronze and silver gradient keeps its lustre; against corrosion, titanium needs nothing at all. Keep anything scratchy away, steel wool or polishing paste, because the colour exists only through the surface oxide layer. Clear pocket lint from the nose of the body from time to time, and rinse the carbide point if it has touched anything sticky.
