Max Knives IWJ — Yellow polycarbonate Impact Watch, one-finger format

Overview

The IWJ is the yellow version of the Max Knives Impact Watch, moulded in polycarbonate coloured through the material. Yellow is the loudest tone in the catalogue: it is the one you find without hesitation at the bottom of a bag, on a workbench or clipped to a strap among other accessories. The format is unchanged, a pocket watch held on one finger and hung by its ring.

Yellow as a marker

When several objects travel with you, keys, a light, a multi-tool, a sheath, colour turns into a filing system in its own right. Yellow cuts through the black of bags, jackets and belts, and the eye reaches it before the hand does. It is also the tone that stays readable in the half-light of a car boot or a deep drawer. Picking yellow is deciding that this particular object should never have to be looked for: it announces where it is with no thought required.

Technical specifications

The body is moulded in yellow polycarbonate, the tone being part of the material rather than a coat laid on the surface. The shape is that of a pocket watch, with a ring that takes a belt, a loop or a bag strap, and a hold sized for a single finger. PSUPPER drawing, model approved by cutler Fred Perrin. Yellow is one of the six polycarbonate colours offered; the series also includes the IWA1 and the IWA3, both in steel.

Care

Nothing special to plan for: polycarbonate washes with soapy water, rinses and dries with a cloth. Yellow stays crisp with very little attention, and a quick pass of a damp cloth returns its brightness after a day outdoors. Set solvent-based products aside. If the piece has spent time in sand or dust, rinse the ring before putting it back on a belt.
