Max Knives FP1801-211 — Large 260 mm Bowie, numbered piece No. 211

Overview

No. 211 is a numbered piece of the FP1801, the largest knife in the Fred Perrin range at Max Knives. Two hundred and sixty millimetres overall, of which 150 mm is Bowie blade in 440C and 95 mm is G10 handle: this is a format held in a full hand, not one that slips into a pocket. The blade carries a stone wash finish and measures 5 mm at the spine. The kydex sheath supplied takes a multi-position tecklock attachment, which starts to matter as soon as a knife reaches this length.

What a 260 mm length changes

A 260 mm knife does not handle like a pocket model, and that is exactly its appeal. The 95 mm handle lets four fingers settle without crowding, which changes everything once a movement repeats. Ahead of it, 150 mm of edge takes a material in a single pass where a short blade forces you to start again. Mass distributes differently too: over that much leverage the tool follows the movement instead of asking for it. Carry is planned accordingly, hence the moulded sheath and its adjustable mount, which decide where the knife sits on the belt.

Care

A long blade is dried along its whole length, from heel to point, with attention where the clip point hollows out. Rinse under clean water after use, dry with a cloth, then oil lightly if the knife is to sit stored for several weeks. The stone wash finish calls for neither paste nor polish: a soft cloth, and that is all. On the carry side, check the tecklock screws and empty the kydex sheath of dust before the blade goes back in.
