Overview

This Bowie carries the number 133. It follows the FP1801 designed by Fred Perrin without a single change: 260 mm overall, a 150 mm 440C blade with a plain edge, a 95 mm G10 handle, stone wash finish, kydex sheath with a tecklock mount. What catches the eye in profile is the spine: a full 5 mm, the thickest measurement recorded across the Fred Perrin knives produced by Max Knives. The number identifies this one piece and will not appear on any other.

Five millimetres of spine, and what that means

Five millimetres on a blade is not a decorative figure: it is the measurement that governs stiffness. A blade's resistance to bending rises far faster than its thickness, so a 5 mm spine is not merely a little stiffer than a 3 mm one — it belongs to another order of magnitude. In practice the blade does not flex under pressure, the point stays on the axis, and the energy put into the movement goes into the material rather than into the steel bending. That same measurement gives the knife its inertia, so it carries itself down through wood or dense cardboard.

Care

A blade of this build holds moisture in the hollow of the clip point: dry it completely before returning it to the sheath. 440C stands up well to corrosion, but a rinse under clean water is still worth it after working on acidic or salty material. A microfibre cloth is enough for the stone wash finish; leave abrasives aside, as they would lighten its grain. The kydex sheath rinses the same way and dries in open air with the fittings loosened.
