Overview

The FPGPLABMINI takes the steel build of the folding Mini Griffe and swings it into black. The 440C blade gives 35 mm of plain edge for 3 mm of thickness; the stainless steel handle measures 65 mm and sets the footprint of the knife once folded. Open, the whole thing lines up 100 mm. La Griffe was born of a very concrete need: keeping a small tool under control without having to grip it hard, and that principle has run through every one of its versions, down to this one. The knife ships with its kydex sheath and paracord.

What a stone wash finish does

Stone wash is not a layer laid onto the steel: the parts are tumbled with an abrasive until the surface takes on a slightly uneven look, woven with micro-scratches running every which way. Light scatters there instead of bouncing back as a clean reflection, and handling marks blend into that general grain rather than standing out against it. On the FPGPLABMINI the treatment comes in black and covers blade and handle alike, which unifies the object from the back of the handle to the tip.

Care

A black knife stays clean if you dry it quickly: after contact with water or with food, wipe blade and handle with the joint open, then let it air for a few minutes before folding it back. One drop of fine oil at the pivot, once a month of regular use, keeps the movement supple. The kydex sheath does not mind water: rinse it, shake it out and lay it flat to dry with the cord untied.
