Max Knives NO5W — StClaire Nano-Oil 5w lubricant, 8 ml bottle

Overview

Nano-Oil is a lubricating oil from StClaire, supplied in an 8 ml bottle and intended for pocket knives, multi-tools and firearms. The 5w is the thinnest of the three grades offered. That lightness lets it travel where a heavier oil would stay on the surface: between two liners, around a pivot, at the bottom of a recess. The bottle fits in a workshop drawer as easily as in a bag pocket.

A knife that opens badly is usually dry, not worn

Before taking a folder apart or blaming its mechanism, it is worth checking whether it is simply dry. A pivot that has lost its film of oil turns gritty, the opening catches and the blade feels stiff even though nothing is damaged. A few drops of 5w placed at the pivot and spread by opening and closing the knife several times are often enough to bring the action back. It is the first maintenance reflex, long before any disassembly.

Technical specifications

Nano-Oil lubricating oil from StClaire, reference NO5W, 5w grade. 8 ml bottle. It is the thinnest of the three grades in the range, ahead of the 10w and the 85w. Stated uses: pocket knife, multi-tool and firearm. Its fluidity makes it the first choice for metal parts that are hard to reach, which it penetrates deeply.

Care

Close the bottle carefully after use and store it upright, away from dust. On the knife, the oil goes onto clean surfaces: a dirty pivot should be cleaned first, otherwise the lubricant loads itself with residue instead of flushing it out. Once the oil is in place, a few opening and closing cycles spread the film across the whole bearing surface of the pivot.
