Max Knives NO85W — StClaire Nano-Oil 85w lubricant, 8 ml bottle

Overview

The last of StClaire's three Nano-Oil grades, the 85w is the thickest in the range and comes in the same 8 ml bottle. It was designed in particular for lubricating semi-automatic firearms, mechanisms in which parts slide against one another on every cycle. Like the other two grades, it is also aimed at pocket knives and multi-tools when a heavier film is what the job calls for.

One drop is enough, the excess attracts dust

A thick oil invites you to use plenty of it, and that is exactly the mistake. Lubricant spilling out of a pivot or a rail is no longer working: it sits on the surface, picks up dust, pocket lint and metal filings, and ends up as a paste that slows the mechanism instead of freeing it. One drop in the right place, spread by a few cycles, then a cloth over the excess is all a clean service asks for.

Care

Close the bottle after every use and store it upright, away from dust. On a part that has already been lubricated, degrease before reapplying: two oils layered over old residue are never worth as much as a fresh film on a clean surface. Keep the cloth used to wipe off the excess for next time. A capped bottle keeps for several seasons in a dry place, well away from any heat source.
