Overview

The P55S leaves the steel bare. Its 98 mm blade in 3Cr13 is given a silver finish, echoed on the two steel half-handles that protect it in the closed position. Shut, the knife measures 117 mm; once deployed, with the two halves forming a grip behind the blade, it reaches 215 mm. A bright piece that catches the light as it moves, where the dark-finished versions in the same family stay discreet.

Two pivots to keep an eye on

A knife with two pivots asks for attention that a fixed blade never demands. The pivots are the only moving parts, they turn on every opening, and it is through them that the knife either deteriorates or improves depending on the care it is given. A rotation that turns gritty almost always points to dry dust caught in the joint rather than wear in the metal. The useful reflex is to clean and lubricate each of the two pivots separately, without assuming they age at the same rate: the handle you throw most does more work than the other, and it is the first to say so.

Care

Bright steel calls for more frequent wiping than a dark finish: run the microfibre over blade and handles as soon as marks appear, without waiting. 3Cr13 holds up well against ambient humidity; for long-term storage, a film of care oil on the steel surfaces remains the best precaution. Put the knife away closed in a dry place, apart from any metal objects that might scratch the silver finish.
