Overview

The PA31 is the metal reading of the feline motif: the same pointed-eared cat head as on the PA30, but cast this time in zamak, an alloy of zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper widely used in pressure die casting. The piece measures 80 mm by 63 for a maximum thickness of 20 mm, and its rings run 22 mm inside, the narrowest figure in this selection and one suited to slimmer fingers.

The motif, and why these get collected

A motif-bearing impact tool is not picked on measurements alone: you take the one whose drawing appeals. Care

Zamak cleans in warm soapy water and should be dried straight away, since prolonged damp is what marks it most. A soft brush clears the hollows of the muzzle and the edges of the ears, where dust settles. Avoid acidic products, harsh detergents and silver polishes, none of which suit this alloy. A dry cloth after each handling keeps the surface even.
