Overview

This page is short on purpose: the MKO30R is exactly the MKO30 in another colour. A red anodized aluminium handle instead of black, and nothing else. If you are hesitating between the two, the choice is aesthetic, not technical.

Technical details

Stainless-steel drop-point blade, plain edge, 50 mm long and 1.5 mm thick. Red anodized aluminium handle, 82 mm closed, 8 mm overall thickness. Double-action automatic OTF mechanism, side button. Overall length 130 mm, weight 54 g.

Why red, in practice

A coloured handle is not only a matter of taste: on a 130 mm knife dropped in a bag, a kit or on a bench, a bright colour is found instantly where a black handle disappears. It is the same reasoning as for site tools. Anodizing fixes the colour into the metal; it does not flake like paint.

Care

Identical to the MKO30: blow out the deployment channel with compressed air, wipe the blade after wet use, a drop of light oil on the mechanism two or three times a year. Red anodizing scratches like black, but the marks show more.
