Max Knives MK1707 — 1000/6000 Corundum Sharpening Stone, Bamboo Base
One stone for the whole job: 1000 on the blue side rebuilds the edge, 6000 on the white side finishes it. A 180 mm corundum stone on a non-slip bamboo base, angle guide included.
Overview
The MK1707 is a corundum water stone — aluminium oxide — set on a bamboo base with a non-slip rubber foot. It measures 180 mm long, 60 mm wide and 30 mm thick. Its two faces carry different grits: 1000 on the blue side, 6000 on the white side. A versatile angle guide comes with it, so the same angle is held from one end of the pass to the other.
From rebuilding to finishing on one stone
1000 is the working grit: it is the one that rebuilds a tired edge and brings a knife that no longer cuts back to life. The 6000 then refines what the 1000 has built. That is the difference from a pure finishing stone: here you start with a dull blade and reach a finished edge without changing stones, simply by turning it over. For a kitchen or pocket knife sharpened two or three times a year, this pair of grits covers the whole job.
Technical specifications
Corundum water stone, aluminium oxide. Dual grit: 1000 on the blue face, 6000 on the white face. Stone dimensions: 180 mm long, 60 mm wide, 30 mm thick. Bamboo base with a non-slip rubber foot. Versatile angle guide included. The stone is soaked before use.
Care
Soak the stone before you start and rinse it when you are done. Do not let it dry covered in slurry, and do not store it damp in a closed cupboard. Always begin on the 1000 face and finish on the 6000: the other way round achieves nothing, as the coarser grit would undo the finer one's work. Clean the rubber foot with clean water.
