Overview

The Devil's Tongue is a push dagger designed by Laci Szabo and released as a limited edition. Its wide, triangular, double-edged blade is inspired by the shape of megalodon teeth. The piece is made entirely of 440C steel, blade and handle in one part, and carries a dark stonewash finish. It measures 185 mm overall and 74 mm in total width, at 2.7 mm thick. Kydex sheath with a tech-lock attachment.

The hook of this model is in its drawing. A megalodon tooth is a massive triangle, broad at the base and tapering evenly to the point: that is the profile the blade takes up, which explains its unusual 74 mm of width on a piece only 185 mm long overall. The handle carries the logic further, skeletonised with a run of holes in decreasing diameters that lighten the material and set a rhythm across the silhouette. The stonewash finish, obtained by tumbling the pieces with an abrasive, darkens the steel and blends fine scratches into the general grain.

Care

440C is stainless but deserves a routine wipe after use, all the more so as a double-edged geometry gives you twice the edges to dry. The stonewash finish has the advantage of ageing well: marks of use blend into the grain instead of standing out. A film of fine oil over the flats now and then is enough to protect it. Dry the holes in the handle with a rolled cloth or compressed air, and rinse the kydex in clean water before drying it fully.
