Max Knives MKB1B — Karamdrink fixed blade, 50 mm 440C hawkbill

Overview

The MKB1B is the second reference of the Karamdrink, a fixed blade from a collaboration and design by Bastinelli. The piece measures 125 mm overall for 95 g: a 50 mm hawkbill blade in 440C steel, 3 mm thick, on a 75 mm black G10 handle. A bottle opener is integrated into the blade. The thermoformed kydex sheath supplied closes over the whole thing and retains it by friction, with no strap or press stud.

What a hawkbill blade changes

A hawkbill blade has no forward-facing point: its edge is concave and its tip aims downward, like a pruning knife. In practice, material cannot slip sideways; it slides into the belly of the curve where pressure is highest, and the cut happens as you draw the blade toward you. That geometry earns its keep on everything soft and evasive: twine, packing tape, strapping, plastic film. The plain edge of this model keeps the curve uninterrupted along its full length.

Care

Wipe the blade as soon as you are done, above all after contact with salt water or a sugary liquid: 440C is stainless, not invulnerable. A dry cloth does the job most of the time, and a drop of fine oil on the flats finishes it. Store the piece dry in its kydex, never damp. The G10 handle and the sheath wash in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry. Sharpen by following the curve, on a narrow stone or a ceramic rod.
