Max Knives MKB3 — L'Assaulyte compact, 440C clip point fixed blade

Overview

L'Assaulyte compact, reference MKB3, is the largest of the three fixed blades from the collaboration and design by Bastinelli. It measures 220 mm overall, close to twice the Karamdrink, with a 100 mm clip point blade in 440C steel, 3 mm thick. The 120 mm black G10 handle leaves room for a full-hand grip. The piece weighs 188 g and arrives with its thermoformed kydex sheath.

The clip point: fine tip, full edge

On a clip point blade the spine is bevelled away over its last third, as if it had been clipped off: the tip drops toward the centreline and becomes finer and more precise, while the cutting edge keeps its full length. It is a versatile shape, as comfortable starting delicate tip work as slicing along the whole 100 mm. At a constant 3 mm of stock, the geometry stays straightforward and easy to bring back to a working edge.

G10, a laminate of glass cloth and resin, does not move with humidity and keeps a constant grip whether your hand is dry or wet.

Care

A fixed blade takes three habits. Wipe the blade straight after use, without waiting, and especially after contact with salt water or acidic juice. Put a light film of fine oil on the 440C flats from time to time. Store it dry, never damp inside the kydex, or moisture will sit against the steel. The G10 handle washes with warm water and mild soap; rinse the sheath and let it air dry.
