Overview

The FPGPLBMINI is the folding Mini Griffe with a composite handle: a 35 mm 440C steel blade in a stone wash finish, 3 mm thick, set on a 65 mm black G10 handle. Open, the knife measures 100 mm; folded, it comes down to the length of its handle. On the scale it reads 26 g. Fred Perrin has been working La Griffe through just about every material a cutler can use since the early 1990s, and G10 is the one that lightens a folding build most plainly. Kydex sheath with paracord included.

A handle that lightens the knife

G10 is a laminate: layers of glass cloth soaked in epoxy resin and pressed under heat until they form a hard block, then machined like solid stock. It does not rust, does not move with humidity and weighs distinctly less than steel for the same volume. At strictly identical dimensions — 100 mm open, 65 mm closed, 35 mm of edge, 3 mm thick — this G10 version is the lightest of the three folding Mini Griffes: 26 g, where the steel-handled versions weigh more. The whole difference comes from the handle.

Care

G10 cleans up with warm soapy water; a soft brush run through the grain of the handle is enough to bring it back, then wipe it dry. On the blade side, 440C asks for the usual gesture: dry it after any wet use, then lay on a film of neutral oil. Get into the habit of opening the knife before drying it, so nothing sits in the blade channel. The paracord on the sheath washes by hand and dries hanging.
