Overview

The FPSPLB is a compact pocket folder drawn by French knifemaker Fred Perrin. Closed, it measures 72 mm around a 35 mm plain-edge blade in 440C steel; open, it reaches 104 mm and weighs 48 grams. The black G10 handle and the black stone washed blade finish make it an all-dark knife, supplied with its kydex sheath and paracord.

Fred Perrin's design

Fred Perrin draws short knives built for the hand rather than the display case, and this folder carries the outline of his Shark. The proportions say it plainly: 35 mm of blade for a 72 mm handle, a knife that vanishes inside a closed palm and inside a jeans pocket. Three millimetres of stock on a blade this short give a dense, compact package, and the paracord fitted to the kydex sheath opens several ways to carry it, around the neck or strapped to a pack.

Care

440C is a stainless steel, but the black stone washed finish is best wiped down after every use, especially after cutting acidic food or a walk in the rain. A dry cloth usually does the job, and a drop of fine oil on the pivot keeps opening and closing crisp. The G10 handle cleans up with soapy water; rinse the kydex sheath with clear water and dry it before putting the blade back in.
