Max Knives MKB1 — Karamdrink fixed blade, 440C hawkbill with bottle opener

Overview

The Karamdrink is a compact fixed blade measuring 125 mm overall, born from a collaboration and design by Bastinelli. Its 50 mm blade in 440C steel takes the hawkbill profile, that inward curve that drops into a hook, and a bottle opener is worked into the same outline. The 75 mm black G10 handle continues the curve of the blade and fills the hand without adding bulk. The whole piece weighs 95 g and stows in the kydex sheath supplied with it.

Karambit and drink: the name says it

The name is a deliberate contraction. Karambit for the geometry: a hawkbill blade cuts on the pull rather than the push, and material stays trapped in the belly of the curve, which suits opening a box, starting a cord or parting a strap. Drink for the second function: the bottle opener is part of the blade itself, not an add-on bolted to the handle. An object that announces its dual purpose in its own name is a rare thing, and that is what makes the Karamdrink so likeable.

Care

440C is a stainless steel, which is no reason to leave it wet: sugary, salty or acidic residue always ends up marking an edge. Wipe the blade dry after use, put a light film of fine oil on the flats now and then, and never store the knife damp inside its sheath. The G10 handle cleans up with warm water and mild soap. Rinse and dry the kydex the same way, and check the tightness of its screws once a season.
