Overview

The MKTI-MOU is a titanium carabiner 68 mm long, 34 mm wide and 3 mm thick, weighing only 10 g. It does first what you expect of it: hanging a bunch of keys, an accessory, a light or a pouch from a belt loop, a bag or a strap. But its body has been machined to take 8, 10 and 12 keys, which makes it a tool as well: the carabiner becomes the thing you reach for when a bolt works loose, mid-outing and a long way from the workshop.

A carabiner that doubles as a wrench

Bringing the clip and the tool onto one piece follows the logic of everyday carry: nobody takes a toolbox along, but everybody has their keys on them. The 8, 10 and 12 openings cover the hardware met on bicycles, trailers, take-apart furniture and camping equipment, and those three sizes are enough for a quick tighten or an adjustment along the way. Because they are cut into the structure of the carabiner itself, they add neither a moving part nor extra bulk.

Care

Titanium washes in warm soapy water and dries with a cloth, with no treatment needed afterwards: it does not rust and takes damp and perspiration in its stride. Clean the wrench openings from time to time with a soft brush, since dust and grease from a bolt can gather there. Work the gate regularly to check that it returns to position. Storing the piece dry keeps its surface looking as it should from one season to the next.
