Overview

The MKO4G10NT is a limited edition: its 95 mm handle leaves the usual aluminium behind for black G10, a technical laminate found mostly on hard-use knives. The D2 tanto blade measures 68 mm by 2.5 mm thick and deploys at a press of the push button, taking the knife to 174 mm. A 10 mm glass breaker extends the handle, a belt clip and a lanyard hole leave the carry method open, and a cordura sheath comes with the knife.

G10, the material behind this limited run

G10 is a laminate: layers of glass cloth soaked in resin, compressed and cured into a dense block that is then machined like solid stock. What makes it a sought-after handle material is everything it refuses to do. It does not absorb water, does not swell, does not move with temperature swings, does not corrode, and takes knocks without denting the way a soft metal would. Its slightly textured surface stays grippable with wet or greasy hands. In black and in a limited run, it gives this small automatic a muted look and a dry feel, far removed from the coldness of aluminium.

Care

The handle is the easy part: G10 washes with soapy water and a soft brush, contours included, with nothing to fear. The blade asks for more, since D2 will stain if left damp; wipe it as a matter of course after use and dry it before closing the knife. A thin coat of fine oil is enough to protect it between outings. The cordura sheath must be fully dry before it takes the knife back, otherwise it holds moisture against the steel for days on end.
