Overview

This black G10 limited edition comes in two blade profiles, and the MKO4G10NDP is the one that goes for the drop point. Its 68 mm D2 blade, 2.5 mm thick, opens automatically at the push button and takes the knife to 174 mm. The G10 handle measures 95 mm, topped by a 10 mm glass breaker. A belt clip, a lanyard hole and a cordura sheath leave the field open: pocket, belt, neck cord or bag, depending on the day.

Why a drop point in this size

The drop point takes its name from the spine that falls in a steady slope to the tip, which ends up low, roughly level with the axis of the handle. Two things follow. First the blade gains a continuous belly, the curve that does all the work when you cut a rope, open a pouch or put food together: the cut rolls instead of stalling. Second the tip, staying in line with the hand, lands where the eye expects it, which matters for fine work such as lifting a splinter or scoring a seal. Across 68 mm of blade, that versatility makes the MKO4G10NDP a knife you reach for whatever the job.

Care

Two materials, two routines. The laminate handle takes water, soap and a brush and dries quickly; while you are there, clear the lanyard hole, where dust likes to settle. The D2 blade calls for the opposite discipline, the one of the ever-present cloth: dry it, then oil it very lightly before a long spell unused, paying attention to the edge and the heel. Finally, keep the opening mechanism free of debris, beach sand and drilling swarf included, as those are what hampers the spring most.
