Overview

The P53B is built around a 98 mm spear-point blade in 3Cr13 steel, presented in a black finish like the two steel half-handles that receive it. Closed, it takes up 117 mm; deployed, with the handles gathered behind the blade, it runs to 215 mm. This is an intermediate format within the P family of balisongs, neither the shortest nor the longest, with a blade whose symmetrical outline is obvious the moment you look at it side on.

About the spear point profile

The spear point takes its name from the spear: spine and edge rise symmetrically towards the end, so the tip ends up aligned with the axis of the blade rather than offset up or down. That symmetry has two effects. The first is visual, and it counts on a balisong: with the blade out, the knife shows a balanced line that carries on from the grip. The second is practical: a centred tip follows the axis of the arm, which makes the movement more predictable than with a profile whose end is swept upwards. The P53B applies that geometry across the whole of its 98 mm.

Care

Get into the habit of opening the knife right out before cleaning it: the inner face of the handles, the one touching the blade, is the part most often forgotten. A dry cloth gets in there without trouble. On 3Cr13 steel, a drop of care oil spread with a finger then wiped off leaves an invisible protective film. Finish with the pivots, one drop each, and close the knife to store it away from dust.
