Overview

The PBF-2 is the tanto of the V-ridge handle. Its 107 mm D2 tool steel blade runs straight, then breaks at a sharp angle into a short, thick point. The black anodized aluminium handle is solid and of integral construction, and carries the same longitudinal V ridge as the PBF-1: a central relief running the full length of the arms, which acts as a landmark as they swing on their two pivots around the blade. 142 mm closed, 245 mm open.

Clip point or tanto: what the tip changes

On a PBF, blade geometry is half the decision. The clip point of the odd numbers lets the spine run straight, then drop away in a concave curve towards a fine, low tip: precise, with a generous length of cutting edge. The tanto of the even numbers instead keeps a straight edge up to a clean angle, from which a short, reinforced point rises. The result is two distinct facets, each with its own edge. The PBF-2 is therefore the tanto version of the PBF-1 — same handle, same V ridge, a different way of finishing the blade.

Care

A dry cloth on the blade after handling, then a veil of light oil on the steel: D2 is a tool steel and likes to stay lightly oiled. The two pivots deserve the same attention, an occasional drop of oil keeping the rotation crisp. On a tanto, sharpening happens in two stages: the long straight edge first, then the short tip facet, each at its own angle. Finally, check that the pivot screws remain properly tightened.
