Max Knives SP60 — Steel folding diamond sharpener with safety lock

Overview

Two details set the SP60 apart from the other folding sharpeners in the series, and the shop lists them for this model alone: a steel body, and a safety lock. Open it measures 215 mm; folded, 120 mm. Its sharpening area runs 90 mm long and does not hold the same width from end to end: it starts at 20 mm and narrows to 10 mm. One face carries 400 grit, the other 600, so a single tool takes an edge from reshaping through to finishing.

The lock, and the area that narrows

The safety lock is the part that holds everything still: once engaged, the SP60 neither closes nor opens unless you decide it should, and your hand keeps the same purchase from the start of a pass to the end. The second detail is a matter of width. An area running from 20 mm down to 10 mm gives you two tools in one: the wide section for the straight length of a blade, the narrow section for places 20 mm will not reach — the hollow of a curved blade, a gut hook, an edge sweeping up to the point. The steel body holds it all together.

Care

Clear the filings off both faces after every session, with a brush or under running water, then dry them thoroughly: the body is steel, and steel does not enjoy staying damp, least of all folded shut. Check now and then that the lock moves freely and that no sharpening residue has worked its way into its housing. A tool kept dry, clean and stored closed comes back with its bite intact.
