Overview

With 86 mm of blade to 113 mm of handle, the MK110 devotes an unusual share of its length to cutting: 199 mm open, 113 mm folded, and only 132 grams on the scale. The drop point blade is 440C stainless steel with a plain edge and a 3 mm spine, finished in a grey, matt stonewash. The black anodised aluminium handle carries a belt clip, and a liner lock secures the blade once it is open.

What a stonewash finish actually does

Stonewashing is done by tumbling blades with an abrasive medium: the surface comes out matt, textured with a mass of fine marks running in every direction. This is not only a matter of looks. A mirror polish records every scratch and puts it on display; an already textured surface absorbs the small marks of daily use, which blend into the existing pattern instead of standing out against it. Stonewash also does not throw back the sun, which keeps the blade discreet and easier on the eye when working in bright light. The finish ages without showing it, so a knife in use still looks like a knife that is cared for.

Care

A stonewash finish asks for nothing special: a dry cloth after use, and the 440C stays clean. Keep abrasive creams and scouring pads away from it, since they polish the surface locally and leave bright patches in the texture. The pivot takes a drop of light oil from time to time, spread by cycling the blade and then wiped off. The black anodised aluminium handle washes with soapy water. When sharpening, the even curve of a drop point is straightforward on a flat stone, sweeping towards the tip to hold the angle all the way round.
