Overview

The MX13894 changes scale. At 600 mm overall, it is handled with the arm rather than the fingertips, and its 450 mm stainless steel blade, black in colour, takes up three quarters of that length. The handle measures 150 mm and brings two materials together: ABS for the structure, rubber for the surface meeting the palm. A nylon sheath comes with the piece, a flexible format suited to a tool of this length, carried hanging rather than pocketed.

A 450 mm blade and a two material handle

On a blade this long, everything is decided at the handle: it is what absorbs the inertia of the swing. For that, the MX13894 combines a body in ABS, a rigid plastic that holds its shape and supports the assembly, with rubber on the surface, bringing soft contact where the hand closes. Pairing a rigid core with a supple skin is the classic answer for tools held in the full hand through repeated sequences of movement.

Care

On a blade surface of this extent, get into the habit of wiping in a single pass from heel to point, with the cloth folded over the spine rather than the edge. Stainless steel should be dried after every outdoor use, then given a film of light oil. The ABS and rubber handle cleans with warm soapy water. The nylon sheath brushes down dry, and is left hanging open to dry if it has taken rain, before the blade goes back in.
