Overview

The MK144 measures 215 mm open and 130 mm closed, with an 85 mm drop point blade in 3Cr13 steel, black finished and 2.5 mm thick. Its aluminium handle is 35 mm wide and 18 mm thick with the knife folded, which stays a reasonable volume for a trouser pocket. The main blade opens with spring assistance, the lock is a liner lock, and the handle ends in a glass-breaker point. Its real distinction lies elsewhere: a second, smaller blade housed in the handle folds out separately.

Two blades in one handle

The second blade of the MK144 comes out of the handle itself, independently of the main blade. The logic is simple: you keep the large blade clean and keen for the work that matters, and use the small one for the jobs that wear an edge down — opening glued packaging, scraping, starting a strip of tape, working flush against a surface. It is a reserve as well: if the main blade is busy or dirty, the small one is already there, in the same object, with nothing to dig out of a bag. Few folders this size offer that layout, and it is what sets the MK144 apart within the series.

Care

Two blades mean two pivots to look after: clean both housings after dirty work, clearing the debris that gathers in the handle slot, then dry with air or a cloth. A drop of light oil on each pivot two or three times a year keeps both blades swinging cleanly. The aluminium asks for nothing more than soapy water and a soft cloth. Sharpen the small blade the way you sharpen the large one, at a constant angle, working from the heel towards the tip.
