Skeletonised handles

Piercing a balisong handle is not only a matter of style. The material removed lightens the outside of the knife and brings the centre of gravity closer to the pivots: rotation starts faster and asks less of the wrist. That is what long flipping sessions call for. The openings also give a surer grip in a wet hand than a smooth handle.

A thin blade

Two millimetres thick is the thinnest in the butterfly family. On a 100 mm drop-point blade that gives a geometry which enters material cleanly and a very light profile at the end of the handles — the balance leans towards the hand, not the tip.

Technical details

Stainless drop-point blade, black finish, 100 mm long and 2 mm thick. Skeletonised black steel-alloy handles, 122 mm. Overall length open 222 mm. Two-pivot balisong mechanism with latch.

Care

The cut-outs make cleaning easy: compressed air clears whatever settles in them. A drop of light oil on each pivot, and a regular check of the pivot and latch screws.
