Max Knives PASKN — One-finger black aluminium impact tool, skull

Overview

The PASKN is the black aluminium reading of the Impact Skull series, the one the shop highlights for its original design. Against a dark ground the skull relief is carried by shadow rather than by reflection, and the object sheds the metallic look of its golden or silver cousins. Proportions stay those of the family: 58 mm long, 35 mm high, 11 mm thick, one finger seat, and a tungsten carbide tip at the end.

Why aluminium

Aluminium is a light metal: for the same volume it weighs roughly three times less than brass, something you notice at once when you pick up two versions of the series one after the other. It machines cleanly, which is how crisp details such as the brow ridges and teeth of the skull come out, and it grows its own oxide skin that keeps rust away. It also accepts coloured treatments, hence the black of this version and the silver of the PASKS. A light object stays in a pocket without you thinking about it.

Care

A black surface shows pale dust and fingerprints more than bare metal does: a barely damp microfibre cloth, followed by immediate drying, puts the piece back in order. Avoid solvents and acetone, which can attack a coloured layer, along with abrasives that would expose pale aluminium under the black, especially on the edges. Run a dry cloth over the carbide tip after any contact with moisture.
