Max Knives PASKAS — One-finger sandblasted aluminium impact tool

Overview

The PASKAS belongs to the Max Knives Impact Skull series, a one-finger outline offered in several metals and several surface treatments. This version is machined from aluminium and then sandblasted, which leaves it an even grey tone and a completely matt surface. The piece measures 58 mm long by 35 mm high for 11 mm of thickness, a pocket-sized format that rides on a keyring or in a bag pouch. The skull that shapes the body runs through the whole series.

What sandblasting changes

Sandblasting fires a fine abrasive at the metal under pressure. It adds nothing to the surface: it removes, digging out countless micro-craters that scatter light instead of bouncing it straight back. That is where the matt look comes from, with no bright highlights, quite unlike aluminium fresh from the mill. The texture has a second effect you feel rather than see: it grips the skin slightly and makes the piece less slippery than a polished face. It also hides handling marks, which vanish into the grain.

Care

Aluminium does not rust, and a sandblasted surface asks for very little: a dry cloth lifts dust, a soft brush clears whatever settles in the hollows of the relief. Stay away from polishing pastes and abrasive pads, which would smooth the grain in places and leave shiny patches across the matt. Dry the piece after any contact with water and wipe the carbide tip, the end most exposed to rubbing.
