Max Knives FP2403 G10 Lappel Dagger — Fixed blade made entirely of G10

Overview

The Lappel Dagger is a Fred Perrin drawing published by Max Knives, and this G10 version changes its very nature. Here it is not only the handle that is composite: the blade is too. The whole piece, from the tip to the end of the handle, is cut from the same material, without a single metal part anywhere. It measures 109 mm overall around a 54 mm double-edged blade 2.5 mm thick. Entirely black, it ends in a circular ring pierced through the handle, made for the cord that comes with it.

A knife with no metal in it

Making a blade out of G10 means asking a glass and epoxy laminate to do what steel usually does. The material lends itself to it: dense, hard and perfectly stable over time, it is shaped by machining and then holds exactly the profile it was given. The result is a piece lighter than a steel fixed blade of the same size, with a matt, textured surface that will not slip under damp fingers, and that is what this version gains over the steel one. The double edge and the tapered point are therefore ground in three dimensions, straight out of the composite. A collector's piece first and foremost.

Care

This is the easiest piece to look after in the whole series: with no steel in it, there is nothing that can rust, so no oil to apply and no protection to renew. Warm soapy water, a rinse and a wipe dry are enough, and it can be repeated as often as you like without consequence. Two precautions all the same: avoid abrasive products, which would scratch the matt surface, and keep the piece away from fierce heat, as one does with any resin-bound composite. The kydex sheath rinses in exactly the same way.
