Overview

The GRIFFED is a limited series designed by Ed Schempp. It is an interpretation of Fred Perrin's La Griffe concept, not a Fred Perrin design: the idea is borrowed, the drawing is Ed Schempp's. The result is a fixed blade measuring 182 mm overall, with an 80 mm drop point blade in 440C steel with a StoneWash finish, and an 82 mm handle in antique micarta. The run is limited to 308 numbered pieces. A kydex sheath, a cordura pouch and a certificate of authenticity come with it.

What Ed Schempp made of the concept

La Griffe, drawn by Fred Perrin in the early 1990s, sits in the hand and holds by its ring. Ed Schempp keeps the idea but changes scale entirely: the GRIFFED measures 182 mm overall where a Griffe such as the FPGN lines up 119, and its blade turns drop point, a shape whose spine falls towards a centred tip and works more broadly in long cuts. The antique micarta handle, a cloth-and-resin composite in a deliberately aged tone, replaces the one-piece body of the Griffes. Across 308 examples, each carries its own number.

Care

Wipe the 440C blade after every use and dry it before it goes back into the kydex; a thin film of light oil is enough to protect it between outings. The StoneWash finish asks only for a soft cloth and has no time for abrasives. Antique micarta cleans with lukewarm soapy water and then dries: its aged tone is part of the design, so there is no point trying to lighten it. Keep the certificate of authenticity with the cordura pouch, away from damp.
