Overview

The Fusion is a compact fixed blade with a tanto point: a tip reinforced by a secondary cutting angle, a geometry that takes what would fold a fine point. The design is a joint creation by Fred Perrin and Michael Janich, two approaches to ergonomics meeting on a short object, firmly held, that reads in the hand without being looked at.

What changed in this version

It is thinner than the first. On a tanto, the thickness behind the edge decides everything: a thinner blade enters material more cleanly, cuts with less effort and tires the wrist less. It is the result of a second design pass, with the benefit of hindsight from the first version — the kind of detail that marks a piece drawn by knifemakers.

Technical details

440C tanto blade, plain edge, 83 mm of edge and 3 mm thick. 77 mm handle. Overall length 160 mm. Weight 89 g. Kydex sheath and paracord included.

The designers

This piece should not be credited to one maker. Fred Perrin, the French knifemaker and designer, is known for compact designs led by use. Michael Janich, an American instructor and designer, works on how clearly a grip reads. Max Knives develops and produces the model.

Care

Wiping after wet use, paying attention to the grind, keeps 440C looking as it left the workshop. Rinse the kydex with clean water from time to time. On a tanto, maintain the two sections of the edge separately: the straight part and the tip each have their own angle.
