Max Knives MKPK — Pocket-format kydex press in aluminium and foam

Overview

The MKPK is a pocket-format kydex press built from aluminium and foam. It is used to thermoform your own kydex sheaths: the hot sheet is pressed against the item to be wrapped, the foam follows the contours and the aluminium holds everything together while the material stiffens again. Its format makes it portable, so the work does not have to happen at a fixed bench.

Forming means fitting the sheath to the knife

An off-the-shelf sheath imposes its own template: you look for the model closest to your knife and live with whatever slack is left. Thermoforming reverses that logic. Here the kydex sheet takes the exact shape of the piece, guard, clip and swivel included, and retention comes from the relief of that particular knife. An unusual blade, a handle nothing seems to hold properly, a specific carry position: the press lets you make the answer instead of hunting for it.

Care

The foam is the delicate part of the tool: keep it clean and dry, away from sharp edges that would cut into it, and let it cool completely between two forming jobs. The aluminium wipes clean with a cloth; kydex residue stuck to the surfaces should come off before it hardens. Stored flat, the press keeps the flatness that makes the clamping work.
