Max Knives FP1903 — Small Bowie in G10, 440C fixed blade of 95 mm

Overview

The FP1903 is the short version of Fred Perrin's Bowie. Where the FP1801 runs to 260 mm, this one stops at 179 mm overall: 95 mm of blade against 150, 4.5 mm of thickness against 5, on an 84 mm handle in non-slip G10. The blade is 440C steel with a plain edge and a stone wash finish, and its geometry is that of a clip point, the Bowie signature. The kydex sheath supplied takes a multi-position tech lock attachment. A Fred Perrin design made for Max Knives.

The same drawing, a different footprint

Going from 260 to 179 mm is not a matter of halving a knife: it changes what you do with it and where you carry it. With 95 mm of edge and 84 mm of handle the piece stays fully gripped — the hand closes completely around the G10 — and the whole thing sits against the hip without announcing itself. The 4.5 mm spine keeps the blade very stiff for the format, half a millimetre off the big model. The clip point geometry does not move: the spine curves over the last third to bring a fine working point, and the belly keeps the sweep that makes it slice on the pull.

Care

Rinse the blade under clean water after use and dry it straight away, especially in the hollow of the clip point where water lingers. 440C is stainless; a veil of light oil before long storage is enough to forget about it. The stone wash finish is kept up with a soft cloth, never with abrasive paste. G10 cleans with soapy water and a soft brush to clear its texture. Empty the kydex sheath before each return and keep an eye on the mount's tightness.
