Overview

The P04BE is a picnic cutlery set whose pieces come apart from one another and gather back into a single block. Folded, it measures 93 mm and weighs 102 grams, so it travels in a rucksack pocket, a bike bag or a wicker basket without asking for room. On the camp table each piece separates and does its own job; at the end of the meal everything comes together again into one compact unit. The handles are cut from ram horn, a natural material that gives the set the look of household cutlery rather than of an outdoor gadget.

Ram horn: no two handles alike

Ram horn is not manufactured, it grows. Every handle scale is taken from a different horn and carries its own striations, its own ripples and its own colour, from honey blond to deep brown, sometimes crossed by darker veins. Two P04BE sets are therefore never quite the same, and the one that reaches you carries a pattern of its own. Horn warms quickly against the hand and polishes with use: the more often the set leaves the bag, the more the handles take on the soft sheen that only living materials develop.

Care

Horn is a natural material that has no taste for long soaks or for the dishwasher: after the meal, wash by hand in warm soapy water, rinse, then dry immediately with a cloth. Two or three times a year, a drop of food-safe oil or colourless wax rubbed into the handles feeds the horn and brings its shine back. The 440C steel simply needs wiping dry before it is put away; avoid leaving the set damp in a closed bag, and store it flat, away from direct sunlight.
