Overview

The MK113SQ, or Simoes SQ, is a one-piece fixed blade cut from a single plate of 440C steel. It measures 109 mm overall with a 49 mm cutting edge and 4 mm of stock: a very solid ratio for so small a format. The blade is a plain-edged drop point. The handle is wrapped in green paracord, and the whole piece weighs 51 g. It arrives in a leather sheath. Numbered series, designed by Paulo Simoes.

The green paracord wrap

This is the only knife in the catalogue with a handle entirely wrapped in paracord, and that is what gives it its character. Paracord is a braided cord built around a multi-strand core; wound tight around a solid handle it thickens the grip, cushions the contact with bare steel and holds on even to a damp hand. The bright green of the wrap plays against the polish of the blade. On a one-piece knife the wrap is also the only interface between your hand and the 4 mm of steel running through the whole thing.

Care

440C asks only to be wiped after use and kept lightly oiled on the flats. The paracord wrap washes in warm soapy water with a soft brush, then air dries away from any heat source before the knife goes back into its sheath. Feed the leather once or twice a year with a leather cream or wax, and never put a damp blade into it: the tannins in leather will mark steel.
