Overview

The FPGPLASMINI is the silver reading of the folding Mini Griffe designed by Fred Perrin: 100 mm once open, a 65 mm handle once folded. Blade and handle are cut from the same 440C steel and share the same stone wash finish, that greyed surface treatment which scatters light instead of throwing it back. The plain edge runs for 35 mm, on a blade 3 mm thick at the spine. La Griffe, the small knife Fred Perrin drew in the early 1990s, has since branched into a long line of versions: this folding Mini is its pocket reading. Kydex sheath and paracord included.

A folder cut from a single material

On this silver version nothing is added to the handle: it is 440C steel, like the blade, and it takes the same stone wash. That unity of material gives an object of one piece, whose muted grey tone does not change from one end of the knife to the other, and it fits entirely into 65 mm of folded length. Folding brings the whole edge back inside the handle: closed, the FPGPLASMINI sits entirely in a cupped palm, and it is that format which decides how you carry it day to day.

Technical specifications

440C steel blade in the Griffe shape, 35 mm plain edge, 3 mm thick at the spine, stone wash finish. 440C steel handle, stone wash as well, 65 mm long, which is exactly the closed footprint of the knife. Overall open length: 100 mm. Kydex sheath included, mounted on paracord. The line holds a second all-steel version, the FPGPLABMINI, identical to the millimetre and set apart by its black finish.

Care

440C is a stainless steel, which does not spare it a wipe after use: a dry cloth over blade and handle, then a film of neutral oil run along the spine, keeps it clean. The joint asks for the same regularity: one drop of fine oil at the pivot, then two or three openings to spread it, keep the folding action crisp. The kydex sheath rinses under clear water and dries in open air, paracord included.
