Overview

The NS149 lays six arms over a 100 mm diameter, in a 3 mm plate of 420 stainless steel. Six-fold symmetry gives a very regular outline, where every arm finds exactly the same neighbour sixty degrees away. The silver finish shows the steel without any colour treatment, and the star is delivered with its belt sheath. The maker quotes 44 g for this reference.

Few stars in the series state a weight; the NS149 is one of them, at 44 g. The figure places the piece high in the table of published masses, between the 39 g of the NS152 and the 52 g of the NS140. Knowing that value has a practical use when throwing, since a heavier star behaves differently as it leaves the arm and calls for the distance to the target to be adjusted session after session. For a collector it is also a reliable marker in a range where many references do not publish the number.

Care

Upkeep follows the rhythm of practice: a dry cloth on returning, a rinse under clear water when soil has settled between the six arms, a full dry before the sheath. 420 holds up well over time provided it is spared prolonged damp. A film of light oil, applied now and then to both faces, keeps the silver finish even across the whole 100 mm.
