Max Knives FPPBG10G — Grey two-tone G10 handle, kydex sheath on a chain

Overview

Between the blue and the brown, the FPPBG10G is the grey reading of the G10 trio drawn by Fred Perrin and published by Max Knives. The two-tone composite stays understated here: grey on the surface, with the second shade showing only where the material has been machined. The dimensions are those of the whole series, a 77 mm 440C steel blade, a 98 mm handle, 175 mm once open, 3 mm thick, clip point shape with a plain edge and a stone washed finish. Paracord and a chain-mounted kydex sheath complete the set.

A kydex sheath hung on a chain

The three G10 versions also part company in the way they are carried. Where the kydex-handled models arrive on a paracord, these come with a metal chain fixed to the sheath. The difference is not decorative. Kydex, formed over the piece, holds it by the sheer tension of the material and returns a dry click as it seats. The chain neither frays nor slackens with damp, slides over itself, and lets the sheath swivel freely at the end of a link, whether it is run through a belt loop or clipped to a carabiner.

Care

Nothing complicated on the handle side: G10 makes do with warm water and soap, then air drying, and its grey shade does not shift in sunlight. The steel asks for more regularity, a careful wipe after every use and a thin coat of neutral oil whenever the knife is put away for a while. Remember to dry the chain and the inside of the kydex sheath after a rinse, so that no drop of water is shut in against the blade when it goes back home.
