Overview

The P41M stands out at first glance for the warm colour of its brown ABS handles, which contrast with the black stainless steel blade they enclose. That blade measures 80 mm, with a clip-point profile and a thickness of 3 mm. The knife fits within 110 mm once shut, which puts it among the most compact of this selection when stowed, and extends to 200 mm when the two halves of the handle come together.

An ABS handle

ABS is a moulded engineering plastic, used wherever a rigid part is wanted that fears neither water nor everyday knocks. It is the only non-metallic material chosen for handles in this selection, and that is felt as much as seen: the contact is less cold than a steel plate, and the material does not take on the ambient temperature in the same way. ABS does not corrode, does not mark the way polished metal does, and cleans up with soapy water. As for colour, the brown runs through the material rather than sitting on the surface, which counts on a piece that gets handled often.

Technical specifications

An 80 mm blade in black stainless steel, clip-point profile, 3 mm thick. The P41M measures 110 mm closed and 200 mm open. Its two half-handles are made of brown ABS and each turns on its pivot at the heel of the blade, the blade housing itself between them in the closed position. The blade steel is a stainless grade shown in a black finish, while the handles keep the brown colour of the moulded material.

Care

ABS handles ask only for a damp cloth, with a touch of mild soap if needed, followed by careful drying; there is no point oiling them, the material does not call for it. The blade is treated like any steel: wiped after use, given a film of care oil if the knife is to stay stored for a long while. Check now and then that the pivots turn freely and add a drop of light oil if the movement starts to feel dry. Avoid leaving the piece in full sun behind glass.
