Overview

The MK115B is the anodised aluminium version of the 115 series, where the MK115S holds the silver slot: same dimensions, same equipment, a different finish. The 63 mm 12C27 tanto blade folds into 92 mm of handle and opens out to 161 mm of knife at 85 g. Numbered and fitted with a reversible belt clip, it suits anyone who wants a pocket folder that does more than cut.

12C27 steel, chosen for use

12C27 is a fine-grained stainless known for the evenness of its edge and for how readily it takes a fresh one: a few passes on a stone usually bring the bite back, with no specialist kit involved. On a 2.5 mm blade like this one, that produces a profile which enters the cut cleanly while keeping metal behind the tanto point. It is a steel that rewards the owner who maintains the knife personally, often and without ceremony.

Care

Rinse and dry the blade after any contact with salt water, sap or acidic food, then leave the knife open long enough for moisture to leave the joint. The anodised handle asks for nothing more than a damp cloth. After cleaning, check that the liner spring still seats squarely behind the blade tang. Short, frequent touch-ups beat one heavy regrind a year.
