Max Knives FPPBG10M — Brown two-tone G10 handle, 440C clip point blade

Overview

Third shade of the G10 trio in the Fred Perrin series published by Max Knives, the FPPBG10M trades blue and grey for a warm brown, closer to natural materials than either of its neighbours. Under that colour the construction does not change: 77 mm 440C steel blade, clip point shape, plain edge, stone washed finish, 3 mm at the spine. A 98 mm handle, 175 mm once open. The piece arrives with its paracord and its chain-mounted kydex sheath.

G10, a glass and resin laminate

G10 is neither a plastic nor an engineered wood: it is a laminate. Sheets of glass cloth soaked in epoxy resin are stacked, pressed and cured together until they form a dense, hard and perfectly stable block. Its qualities follow from that: it does not swell, does not split as it dries, does not move from one season to the next and shrugs off splashes. Its machined surface also offers an even bite under the fingers. Here the stack mixes two shades, and the brown on the surface gives way to the second wherever the tool has cut into the layers.

Paracord supplied, kydex sheath with a chain. This same configuration exists in blue under the reference FPPBG10B and in grey under the reference FPPBG10G.

Care

A G10 handle asks for no particular attention: warm water, a little soap, a rinse, and it looks as it did on the first day, never calling for oil or wax. The cleaning that matters concerns the blade, which should be wiped without delay after any damp job, dried through, then protected with a light film of knife oil if the piece is going to sit unused. The kydex sheath rinses under clear water and drains in open air; dry its chain as well before putting the set away.
