Overview

The second of the two black models in the Impact Skull series, the PASKNA sets itself apart with an antique finish. Where the PASKN shows an even black, this one works on two values: the bottom of the relief stays deeply dark while the raised parts of the skull come up lighter, as though rubbed by time. The format does not shift by a millimetre: 58 mm long, 35 mm high, 11 mm thick, one finger, and the tungsten carbide tip shared across the family.

What an antique finish brings

An antique finish aims to give a new piece the look of an old one. The principle never changes: the whole surface is darkened, then the raised zones are worked back so the lighter metal reappears there. The result is a permanent contrast between hollows and high points, which is exactly what a sculpted motif needs, since without that difference in value the eye sockets, cheekbones and jaw of a skull merge into one flat tone. On the PASKNA the finish therefore serves the drawing as much as the mood.

Care

An antique finish lives on a contrast of surface, so treat it with the restraint you would give a patina. A soft cloth, dry or barely damp, covers everyday cleaning. Rule out polishing pastes, cleaning creams and scouring pads, which would lift the black out of the recesses and flatten the very effect the finish sets out to create. Dry after any contact with water and pass a cloth over the carbide tip.
