Overview

This long thirty-metre length brings two useful things together: the versatility of 4 mm parachute cord and a white glow shade that announces itself once the light has gone. You use it as you would any paracord, to tension a tarp, raise a shelter, secure a tent, mend a strap or braid a bracelet, with the difference that at camp, after dark, you know where the lines run.

Guy lines nobody walks into

The tent guy line is the obvious use for this cord. Strung low, often straight across the route between the door and the rest of the camp, it is the main cause of night-time stumbles. Swapping the original tensioners for this cord solves that without a torch and without reflectors: after a day spent in daylight the line stays perceptible in darkness and the path to the tent becomes readable again. Thirty metres will fit out several tents.

Technical specifications

Parachute cord in a 4 mm diameter, glow white, supplied as a 30 metre length. The cord charges in light and then stands out in the dark. Every usual paracord application still holds: shelter, trap, stretcher, makeshift splint, fishing line, replacement lace, braiding of bracelets and dog collars. The 4 mm gauge also passes through the beads and buckles made for paracord.

Care

Cord meant to be seen at night has to be kept clean: dust and mud settled on a white shade take away the point of it, while a rinse under clean water restores it. Dry the length unwound before coiling it. Remember to leave the cord out in daylight ahead of a night under canvas rather than pulling it from a closed bag at the last minute. Then store it in a loose coil.
