Overview

Thirty metres of 4 mm parachute cord in glow yellow is a reserve that does two jobs at once. It handles the usual outdoor rigging, tensioning a tarp, securing a tent, assembling a shelter, setting a trap, mending equipment, braiding a bracelet; and it goes on making itself known when daylight has gone, provided it has been out in it beforehand.

Marking out a route

Yellow is the colour of way-marking, and this length lets you apply that at camp. A cord run along the path down to the water point, a handrail across a sloping stretch, a few strands tied to branches along a track: all of them stay readable in the dark and spare you the hesitation on the way back. Thirty metres covers real ground, enough to mark a full there-and-back rather than one isolated point.

Technical specifications

Parachute cord in a 4 mm diameter, glow yellow, in a 30 metre length. This cord shows in darkness once it has been exposed to light. The 4 mm gauge remains that of outdoor cordage and braiding, and matches the beads and buckles intended for paracord. The length is supplied in one piece. Every ordinary paracord use stays open to it alongside the marking role.

Care

Way-marking cord spends its nights outside and its days on the ground: rinse it generously under clean water when you take it down, then spread it out to dry right through. Avoid putting it away still damp, above all tightly wound. Before the next trip, leave it in daylight for a while, since that is what decides whether it is worth anything come evening. Re-form the coil as you put it away, which keeps twist out of it.
