Overview

The PARA15V is fifteen metres of 4 mm parachute cord in green, cut for the pack. This reserve goes along with outdoor activities where something has to be rigged: camping, raising a shelter, tensioning a tarp, setting a trap, fishing, mending a strap, immobilising a limb with a makeshift splint. Green settles naturally into woodland, joining the colour of the leaves rather than cutting across it.

Disappearing into the green

A green line strung between two trunks soon stops registering as something added to the landscape. That matters for a shelter you would rather keep low-key, for a hide, for any rig you do not want announced from a hundred paces. It pays off back home too: the same length ties shrubs in the garden, holds a row taut or keeps a net in place, and the shade vanishes among the stems. Cord that stays discreet tends to be left in place longer.

Technical specifications

Paracord derived from parachute cord, 4 mm in diameter, in green, presented as a 15 metre length. This gauge takes camp knots as readily as bracelet braiding, and remains compatible with the beads and buckles designed for paracord. Fifteen metres corresponds to a portable reserve, to be recut as required.

Care

After a rig in the woods the cord comes back loaded with soil, resin and plant debris: a generous rinse under clean water, cord unwound, deals with all of it. Let it dry stretched out before coiling it into even loops. Dry storage out of full sun looks after both the colour and the handling of the cord. Cast an eye over the length while you coil it back up, since that is the right moment for it.
