Max Knives MK505 — Mini Dagger fixed blade, 65 mm 440C drop point

Overview

The MK505 is the most generous format in the Mini Dagger line. Its 65 mm 440C drop point blade moves up to 3 mm thick, against 2 mm on the MK503, MK504 and MK506, and takes the same greyed stone washed finish. The black G10 handle measures 74 mm, the whole reaches 139 mm and weighs 88 g. The thermoformed kydex sheath completes the piece and allows it to ride fixed to your gear rather than stored at the bottom of a bag.

Three millimetres that change the knife

Going from 2 to 3 mm of blade stock looks like nothing on paper; in the hand it shifts the feel towards a working fixed blade. The blade gains inertia, the spine offers a solid rest for the thumb when guiding a cut, and weight climbs to 88 g against 54 g for the MK506. Paired with a 65 mm blade and a 74 mm handle, that thickness gives the MK505 balanced proportions, split almost evenly between edge and grip.

Care

Rinse the blade with clean water after dirty work, dry it without delay, then protect the 440C with a film of light oil applied by cloth. G10 fears neither water nor soap and dries on its own. Remember to empty the kydex sheath of the debris that gathers inside: on a 3 mm blade that enters and leaves with friction, particles held in the shell are what marks the finish fastest. Dry storage does the rest.
