Overview

The 14693T is the titanium-finish version of the Small Flip. The word describes the finish rather than the material: blade and handle are both 440C steel, in the scale-free construction that runs through this series of registered-design rotating folders. The knife measures 75 mm closed and 105 mm open, with a 30 mm drop point blade. It is the third shade offered alongside the black and the silver, for anyone who would rather carry a piece that plays on neither contrast nor shine. A belt clip is fitted to the handle.

The rotating flip, in one movement

The principle takes one handling to understand: instead of turning the blade, you turn the handle. It pivots on its axis, clears the blade and settles behind it, ready to be gripped. Opening and closing are both one-handed, the same movement run one way and then the other. That architecture, where the moving part is the handle and not the blade, is what the registered design protects. On the Small Flip, with the whole knife made of steel, the movement keeps the same weight and the same inertia every time you run it.

Care

A dry cloth after each use is enough to look after 440C, which is stainless but still resents salty or acidic deposits left sitting on the blade. Clean the titanium finish without abrasives, with warm water and a cloth if needed, then dry it straight away. A drop of light oil on the pivot two or three times a year keeps the handle turning without a tight spot. For the edge, work at the original angle on a fine stone or a ceramic rod, alternating sides.
